His son Johannes Grieshaber (1840–1908) followed in his father's footsteps. After staying in the USA for several years , he settled in Schaffhausen and acquired citizenship .

His son Johannes Konrad Grieshaber grew up with two sisters in Schaffhausen and completed his professional honor as a cutler and instrument maker. He then went on a journey of several years that took him to Geneva , Roanne , Paris , Alforttville , Nogent , London and Sheffield .

On his return Grieshaber married Emma Gysel, with whom he had two sons. From 1915 he dealt with medical instruments and, as a cutler, took over the instrument repairs for the eye clinic from Franz von Mandach and Otto Haab .

In addition to the practical use of the instruments, it was very important to Grieshaber that they had a balanced and even shape. To do this, he studied the structure of plants in order to then transfer the forms he found onto his instruments.

At the end of the 1920s, his workshop worked for most clinics in the German-speaking area and Latin American countries, including the Sun-Yat-Sen University . In the following 45 years, Grieshaber created numerous new products for eye surgery , which made his workshop into a world-famous company. It developed into today's Alcon Grieshaber AG.

Grieshaber's work has been named in numerous publications in the specialist ophthalmic literature. The Swiss Ophthalmological Society awarded him a certificate in 1939 for his great services.

In 1952, the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich awarded "the creative instrument maker who - combining craftsmanship with noble humanity - the best instruments in the hands of ophthalmologists all over the world" with the honorary title of Doctor of Medicine.
