Johannes Niederer (politician)

Johannes Niederer (born April 11, 1819 in Walzenhausen , † January 15, 1896 in Rehetobel ; resident in Walzenhausen) was a Swiss doctor and politician from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Johannes Niederer was the son of Bartholome Niederer, farmer , and Anna Katharina Künzler. He married Anna Tobler, daughter of Bartholome, mayor .

Niederer first attended the Schurtanne Education and Orphanage in Trogen in 1831 and later the school in St. Gallen . He interrupted his schooling from 1837 to 1839 for health reasons. In 1839 Niederer was a supervisor in the private insane asylum in Walzenhausen. He then studied medicine in Bern and Vienna from 1840 to 1845 . Niederer acquired a doctorate in medicine in Speicher in 1845 . He then worked as a doctor in Rehetobel for around 50 years. He made particular contributions in the areas of lung diseases and obstetrics . Niederer served from 1848 to 1850 as a two-time district administrator and from 1850 to 1858 as a councilor in Rehetobel. From 1851 to 1873 he was a member of the cantonal medical commission and also served as president from 1868 to 1873. He was also a member of the Small Council and the Criminal Court of Appenzell Ausserrhoden from 1858 to 1864 . Niederer served as chief judge from 1864 to 1868 . In 1847 he worked as a military doctor in the Sonderbund War . In 1859 he was head of the military hospital in Winterthur . From 1850 to 1854 he was a board member of the Appenzell non-profit society . In 1857, Niederer founded the Rehetobel Voluntary Health Club . He was very active politically and socially and was considered an original. There are numerous anecdotes about him.
