Johannes Praus

Johannes Praus (born May 14, 1983 in Dresden ) is a freelance cinematographer and photographer.

Life

Johannes Praus was born in May 1983 in Dresden, the former GDR . He works as Director of Photography / Cinematographer for documentaries and feature films, is a member of the BVK Cinematography Association and a freelance photographer. Johannes lives in Berlin and Dresden.

Johannes Praus received various awards and nominations for his work during his studies in the camera course at the University of Film & Television "Konrad Wolf" in Potsdam-Babelsberg . a. won the Kodak Cinematography Award three of his films were selected for the CamerImage Film Festival Bydgoszcz. He completed his diploma studies as a picture designer in 2013 with the theoretical work No relationship is impossible with distinction. His graduation film Nach Wriezen won the Grimme Prize in 2015 .

From April 2013 to March 2015 he was a master class student with Peter Badel at the Babelsberg Film University. His feature film debut Elswo won the Dialogue en Perspective award at the 64th Berlin International Film Festival , was selected for the European Panorama at CamerImage and won the Independent Camera Award at the 49th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival . The documentary films Transit Havana (nomination for the competition at the International Documentary Film Festival Munich and the 51st International Film Festival Karlovy Vary) and Du warst mein Leben (Grimme Prize 2018 and nomination IMAGO - International Award for Cinematography 2019) received further awards . He was nominated for the German Camera Prize 2020 with pressure , and the series also received a nomination for the German Television Prize 2020 .

In addition to his cinematic work, he works as a freelance photographer and presented his work in various solo and group exhibitions. In 2018 he published his illustrated book, Moments of Reality brought with him, with 54 black and white illustrations of his photographic work.
