Murnau Short Film Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The short film prize of the Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau Foundation was awarded from 1994 to 2014 by the Wiesbaden- based Murnau Foundation . Prizes will be awarded games , documentaries and animated films . The prize was used to promote young talent. A total of 190 productions have been awarded over the past 20 years. In 2015 a creative break for realignment was announced. In the reporting on the 50th anniversary of the foundation in 2016, the continued existence of the funding was no longer mentioned.

Submission and prize money

German productions in 35 mm format with a length of three to 15 minutes and an FSK approval for the current year were evaluated. A jury decided on the award of the award at the beginning of the following year; the award ceremony took place in May in the Caligari FilmBühne Wiesbaden. The prize was endowed with 2000 euros per film, which was awarded to the respective producers of the up to 10 awarded films.

The Murnau Short Film Prize was one of the most coveted awards of its kind nationwide, as it served as a reference criterion for FFA short film funding, alongside the German Short Film Prize , the FFA Short Film Prize and the German Business Film Prize.

Award winners

The list of winners since 1994 includes short films by Pepe Danquart , Tyson Montgomery and Jochen Alexander Freydank , which were later also awarded the Academy Award Oscar . Directors such as Julia von Heinz , Fatih Akın and Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck were already awarded the Murnau Short Film Prize before their breakthrough.
