Johannes Richard Voelkel

Johannes Richard Voelkel (* 1971 ) is a German actor .

Act

Voelkel completed his training as a graduate actor at the Rostock University of Music and Theater . During his training, he received the Vontobel Actor Award in Zurich.

Theater engagements led him a. a. to Hamburg, Frankfurt am Main, Luxemburg, to the Volkstheater Rostock , the Theater Aachen , and to the German State Opera . He played title roles such as Cyrano de Bergerac , Woyzeck, Howie in "Howie the Rookie" or the Biff in Death of a Salesman . He has worked in over 50 film and television productions. He embodied roles in various TV movies and feature films as well as in numerous crime novels from Soko to Tatort. He also had engagements in internationally award-winning films such as Carlos - the Jackal or Joyeux Noel. The film was nominated for the 78th Academy Award (Oscar) and the Golden Globe and won the Cine de Valladolid.

Since 2013 he has also been active as a director. The short films The Tournament and “Wild Thing” were followed in 2014 by TANTALUM . His films, for which he also wrote the scripts, were shown in competition at over 30 film festivals worldwide. He received the “Best Documentary Short” award at the Golden Egg Film Festival in New York City in 2015 and an Honorable Mention at the Brasil de Cinema Internacional Festival in Rio de Janeiro. For TANTALUM, Ken Loach, as jury president of the Unchosen Film Festival in London 2014, presented him with the award for the best international contribution.
