Viticulture

The wine-growing area around Figari belongs to the regional appellation Vin de Corse . Since April 2, 1976 (the decree was last revised on March 25, 1991) the area has the status of an Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC for short). The Figari wine-growing region is a sub-zone in which the appellation regulations have been somewhat more strictly regulated. The zone includes the municipalities of Figari, Monacia-d'Aullène and Pianottoli-Caldarello .

The area is one of the southernmost wine regions in France . The Porto-Vecchio wine-growing region is even further south, as this includes the southern tip of Corsica with the vineyards of Bonifacio. The wine-growing areas around Figari have been reduced from around 750 ha to around 100 ha since the early 1970s. They are almost exclusively processed by a wine cooperative. The wines produced here are, similar to the rest of Corsica, mainly red wines (60 percent), rosé wines (30 percent) and only 10 percent white wines.

Mainly indigenous varieties in the Figari area are the white Carcajolo Blanc and the red Carcajolo Noir . One of the better-known wines from the Figari region is L'omu di Cagna from the wine cooperative .
