action

Johannes Becker is doing his best to get by as a small farmer. But in today's world that is almost impossible and the debt is growing over his head. The old combine is broken and he has no money for spare parts. Then the wastewater association is demanding almost 10,000 euros, which has accrued in recent years. The attempt to ask the mayoress, his wife who is separated from him, for help fails because of her possibilities.

Unexpectedly, Johannes 'son Felix moves back from the big city to his parents' farm to work as a farmer. After five years of radio silence, he and his father, Johannes Becker, have to get used to each other again. Otherwise, time did not stand still because his parents have since separated. In order not to hand over a completely ailing farm to his son, he sells the land with a heavy heart to his arch rival Günter Fuchs and now has the money he needs to pay off his debts. But Felix knows nothing about it and is now harvesting the wheat in the field that no longer belongs to the Beckers. Johannes finds it difficult to pour pure wine for his son, now that he has returned home and now also declares that he wants to become a farmer. That's why Johannes tries to buy back his land, but Fuchs takes a stand. It doesn't take long for Felix to find out the whole truth. But he also carries a secret with him all the time, because he has been in prison for the last few years. For his dream of working as a DJ in the big city , he had also got involved in the piracy of music, for which he was convicted in the end. And so he confesses to his father that he is actually broke too. Together they are now forging a plan. They continue to mow in the fields that actually belong to Fuchs, but which had been tilled by the previous owners. Since their own combine harvester is no longer operational, they get a brand new model without further ado. On the pretext of just wanting to test drive the machine, they mow the entire field at night. But their joy does not last long, because the warehouse with the grain suddenly burns down. Johannes immediately suspects Günter Fuchs, but he disappeared just as suddenly. The criminal police are looking for him not only because of the conclusion of bogus deals , but also because of subsidy fraud because he had the purchase of the land as organic land promoted.

Grain gone, Fuchs gone, and Felix is now going back to town. Johannes doesn't know what to do next. In a meeting of the affected farmers, the mayor suggests that everyone should buy back their land. This should be feasible with the appropriate funding opportunities. But most of them have already spent the money they got from Fuchs. So Johannes decides to buy the fields alone by registering himself or Felix for a “young farmer program”. Since his son does not yet know anything about this plan, he has to convince him quickly because the registration period is about to expire. At the last minute you can reach the Ministry of Agriculture and submit your application on time.

Reviews

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv draws the following verdict on this film: “[...] Thanks to the good ensemble led by the wonderfully taciturn Ernst Stötzner, wonderful music and the luscious summer light, the film still offers (or perhaps because of it) pronounced enjoyable and entertaining entertainment at a high technical level. "

At Frankfurter Allgemeine , Oliver Junge said: “It would be easy to produce a depressing film on this subject. But it takes a lot of talent to come to terms with the death of farmers in a quaint comedy without losing sight of the problems. ”“ The authors Jakob Hein and Robert Krause have set their defiant pitchfork fairy tale in a Mecklenburg provincial town. The secret is a kind of dramaturgical crop rotation: every economic setback is followed by a cheeky self-assertion. The courageous direction by Sibylle Tafel contrasts color and sun-saturated images that follow the wellness optics of usual country romances with a plot that is actually about hopelessness. "

Ulrich Feld from the FNP said: “The Heimatfilm, which has often been declared dead, has achieved a regular broadcast date in the ARD Friday evening film. That's right: no more trace of a peaceful idyll. Instead of the feeling of security and comfort, more and more socially critical elements flow into the films. ”“ The mixture of humor, (implied) marriage drama and social frustration ignites immediately and thanks to the brisk directing it gets into the push very quickly. [...] Despite all the joke, the more serious themes of the film come into play throughout. It is also about the death of the farms, the farmers' struggle for survival and the unrestrained hustle and bustle of speculators. It's nice that the ARD Friday film takes up such topics again and again. If he also packs it in an appealing and entertaining way, all the better. "
