life and career

He made a name for himself in particular as a jazz musician and has led his own John Altman Big Band for decades . However, he was not limited to jazz, but also worked as an arranger for well-known pop musicians such as Diana Ross , George Michael , Goldie , Björk , Rod Stewart , Tom Jones and Tina Turner . He is also a regular guest conductor with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra .
Altman has been a film composer since the early 1980s. He then composed music intensively for various film and television projects, both in the USA and in Great Britain, until the mid-2000s. For the James Bond film Goldeneye in 1995 he was initially only the conductor of the score, but eventually composed the music for the important tank sequence after the filmmakers were dissatisfied with the work of the main composer Éric Serra . His work on the television film Citizen Kane earned him an Emmy Award in 2000 .
