John Derek Persaud

John Derek Persaud (born August 28, 1956 in Georgetown ) is a Guyanese clergyman and appointed Roman Catholic Bishop of Mandeville .

Life

From 1975 John Derek Persaud studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the St. John Vianney and Uganda Martyrs seminary in Trinidad . He received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Georgetown on July 14, 1985 .

After his ordination, John Derek Persaud worked as a pastor at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Georgetown. From 1992 to 1997 Persaud was pastor of the parish of Holy Rosary before he was sent to Rome for further studies . After obtaining a licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Urban University in 1999, he returned to his homeland and became diocesan chancellor. From 2001 to 2012 John Derek Persaud was Parish Administrator of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and Vicar General of the Diocese of Georgetown. In 2012 he became judicial vicar at the ecclesiastical court of the ecclesiastical province Port of Spain . Persaud served as secretary of the Antillean Bishops' Conference from 2014 to 2018 . He then became Episcopal Vicar for the Clergy and again Vicar General of the Diocese of Georgetown and Parish Administrator of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception and judge at the Church Court.

On June 19, 2020, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Mandeville.
