Jon Michelet (born July 14, 1944 in Moss , † April 14, 2018 in Oslo ) was a Norwegian writer and journalist .

Life

Jon Michelet was a trained helmsman and studied journalism at Oslo University . He worked as a seaman , dock worker and, after his studies, also as a journalist for the daily newspaper Nordlys and later as head of the publishing house. Michelet also hosted a number of entertainment programs on Norwegian television . From 1997 to 2002 he was editor-in-chief of the left-wing daily newspaper Klasskampen .

He was a member of the left-wing radical party AKP , later Rødt , and worked as a regional politician. In the 1970s, Michelet was secretly monitored by the police on suspicion of underground communist activity. His phone calls were tapped and his private letters read. He was considered a leading member of the Norwegian Communist Party, AKP.

Michelet fell ill with cancer and was treated in an Oslo hospital, where he died on April 14, 2018 as a result of his illness.

Literary work

Michelet's first detective novel was published in 1975. From then on, he also wrote numerous children's books, dramas and non-fiction. Together with Dag Solstad , he edited five books on soccer world championships . Some of his books have been filmed. a. as TV thrillers.

Until his death, 12 of his novels by Gabriele Haefs had been translated into German. Most recently he was working on a new book in his series En sjøens helt (A Hero of the Sea), which he was able to finish shortly before his death and which is due to appear in autumn 2018.

Michelet served from 2003 to 2009 as president of the Rivertonklubben , a literary association of writers, publishers, booksellers and literary scholars. The Society has awarded the Riverton Prize for the best work in criminal literature every year since 1972 . Michelet himself received this award in 1981 and 2001.
