Jonathan Heimes

Jonathan "Johnny" Heimes (born February 19, 1990 in Darmstadt ; † March 8, 2016 there ) was a German football fan who was diagnosed with cancer . 2014 he contributed to the rise of the football club SV Darmstadt 98 in the second Bundesliga using Motivationsarmbändchen favor of the development association of the Children's Cancer Hospital at Frankfurt University Hospital . Life

Jonathan Heimes was youth tennis champion before cancer prevented his further career in the following years. He was trained together with Andrea Petković by their father Zoran Petković . Together with Andrea Petković, Heimes founded the non-profit society Du muss Kampf in February 2015, which supports associations and projects for supportive sports therapy in cancer therapy for children and adolescents. By July 2016, the association Aid for Children with Cancer in Frankfurt had donated almost one million euros. Heimes died of cancer on March 8, 2016.

The captain of SV Darmstadt 98, Aytaç Sulu , spoke at a press conference of the club and emphasized the importance of Heimes for the success of the team. On behalf of his loyalty to the fans for the lilies and as a thank you for his commitment to children and young people with cancer despite his own illness, he was asked to take part in the 2015 Bundesliga promotion ceremony at SV Darmstadt 98 and 15,000 fans sang You'll Never Walk Alone together .

His death triggered a nationwide media coverage. Mayor Jochen Partsch and the City Council of Darmstadt praised Heimes as a "role model for many people, children and adults, in Darmstadt and far beyond the borders of our city".

In his memory, SV Darmstadt 98 renamed its stadium for the 2016/17 season to the Jonathan Heimes Stadium at Böllenfalltor . To this end, the rights holder of the stadium name, Merck KGaA , waived its current naming rights for one year. Since the 2017/18 season, the stadium's south stand has been called the "Jonathan Heimes Stand" until 2020.

In 2017, TEC Darmstadt named its first place during the charity tournament in favor of the You-must-fight initiative with the support of Merck KGaA in Jonathan-Heimes-Center Court .

Jonathan Heimes was buried in the Bessunger Friedhof in Darmstadt.
