Aytaç Sulu (born December 11, 1985 in Heidelberg ) is a former German-Turkish soccer player. He was most recently under contract with the then German third division club FC Carl Zeiss Jena .
Career
Youth and move to Bahlingen
In his youth, Sulu played for FV Nussloch , SG Heidelberg-Kirchheim and SV Sandhausen . In the 2004/05 season he was also used in the SV Sandhausen league team. In 2005 he moved to Bahlinger SC , who had been relegated from the Oberliga to the Association League. In his first season in Bahlingen Sulu reached with the club the direct return to the league. In 2007, Sulu was obliged by TSG 1899 Hoffenheim , in whose second team he was used in the major league.
VfR Aalen
In 2009 he followed his Hoffenheim coach Rainer Scharinger , who had already trained him in Sandhausen, to VfR Aalen , who had been relegated to the Regionalliga Süd and put together a completely new team except for three players. Aytaç Sulu was the captain of the 23-year-old on average and played 33 games in the following season, at the end of which the club was directly promoted back to the third division. In addition, Sulu won the WFV Cup with the VfR , whose victory entitles him to participate in the first round of the DFB Cup . On the first day of the new third division season, Aytaç Sulu made his professional league debut on July 24, 2010 in the 3-0 away defeat against second division relegated Hansa Rostock . In the further course of the season he scored three goals in a total of 37 games as head of defense, which he contributed to the league of the Swabians.
Gençlerbirliği Ankara
Negotiations about an extension of his expiring contract failed in June 2011, whereupon Sulu left the Aalen at the end of the season and moved to the Turkish first division club Gençlerbirliği Ankara for free . At the capital club, however, he could not assert himself; he made his debut in the Süper Lig on February 1, 2012, when he was substituted on for Yasin Öztekin in the 89th minute of the 1-0 home win against Gaziantepspor . By the end of the season, Sulu came on only one more brief assignment in the first division. Only when he played in the club's reserve team in the A2 Ligi did he play over 90 minutes. In the summer of 2012, Gençlerbirliği dissolved the contract with Sulu and released him.
SCR Altach
Sulu then joined the Austrian second division club SCR Altach , which Rainer Scharinger trained in the meantime. When he was dismissed there in early January, Sulu also left the club and returned to Germany, where the third division SV Darmstadt 98 signed him .
SV Darmstadt 98
In Darmstadt he developed into a top performer and helped the Hessians, who were last in the table during the winter break, to play a better second half of the season; At the end of the season, the club still occupied the first relegation place, but benefited from the forced relegation of the Offenbacher Kickers . After relegation had been achieved in this way, Sulu was appointed team captain at the Darmstadt team at the beginning of the 2013/14 season .
At the end of the 2013/14 season, Sulu rose to the 2nd Bundesliga with SV Darmstadt 98 after winning the relegation against Arminia Bielefeld . In the 2nd Bundesliga he kept his regular place as a central defender and remained captain and top performer. At the end of the 2014/15 season he was promoted to the first Bundesliga with Darmstadt 98 and managed to stay in the league in the following 2015/16 season. Seven goals by the defender, including six with the head, contributed to this. After relegation the following year, Sulu stayed in Darmstadt in the 2017/18 season and left the club after six years in the winter break of the 2018/19 season .
Samsunspor
The defender then went back to Turkey and signed a contract with third division Samsunspor until 2020.
FC Carl Zeiss Jena
At the end of January 2020 Sulu moved back to Germany to the relegation-threatened FC Carl Zeiss Jena in the 3rd division and signed a contract until the end of the season. At the end of the season he left the relegated again.
