Jonathan William Panzo (born October 25, 2000 in Brockley , Lewisham ) is an English football player of Ivorian descent who has been under contract with the French first division club FCO Dijon since August 2020 . The central defender became the U17 world champion with the English U17 national team in October 2017 and has been working for the U21s since September 2019 .

Jonathan Panzo was in London district of Brockley , Lewisham , the son of Ivorian born parents. At the age of nine he joined the youth academy of Chelsea FC , where he penetrated the reserve for the first time through various junior teams in the 2016/17 season. With the Blues , he won the U18 championship title this season and the following.

On July 6, 2018, Jonathan Panzo moved to the French first division club AS Monaco for a transfer fee of three million euros . There he started the 2018/19 season in the reserve team, which played in the fourth-class Championship National 2 . On December 19, 2018, he made his debut in the first team in the 1-0 cup win against FC Lorient . This use remained his only one this season, while he came to 22 league games in the reserve, in which he succeeded in scoring.

The central defender made his Ligue 1 debut on August 9, 2019 (1st matchday) in a 3-0 home defeat against Olympique Lyon . Despite another league appearance, Panzo moved on August 30, 2019 together with his teammate Lyle Foster on loan for the entire 2019/20 season to the Belgian first division club Cercle Bruges . He made his debut on September 14, 2019 (7th matchday) in the 2-0 home defeat in the city derby against Club Bruges . In the relegation candidate, Panzo quickly established himself as a regular player, but played mainly in the position of the left full-back . Until the end of the season due to the Covid-19 pandemic , he was in 17 league games for Cercle.

On August 26, 2020, Panzo moved to league rivals FCO Dijon , where he signed a three-year contract.

National team

Between August 2015 and March 2016, Jonathan Panzo played nine international matches for the England U16 national team . From August 2016 he worked for the U17s and took part in the U17 European Championship 2017 in Croatia . There he stood in all six games over the full game distance and reached the final against Spain with the Three Lions . They lost this 3-6 after the penalty shoot-out . In October of the same year he was in the squad for the 2017 U17 World Cup in India . There he was on the field in two of the three group games and reached the final again as a regular in left full defense. With a 5-2 win against Spain, the successful revenge for the lost European Championship final was achieved and Panzo prepared a goal for his team-mate at Chelsea FC Marc Guehi . After this tournament, Panzo's time in the U17 ended after 21 international matches.

From September 2017 to May 2018 he played four test matches with the U18s . He then played eight appearances for the U19s . He has been the England U21 international since September 2019 .
