José Antônio Aparecido Tosi Marques (born May 13, 1948 in Jaú ) is a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Fortaleza .

Life

Tosi was born the eldest of six children, studied at the seminary of São Carlos from 1966 and was ordained deacon in December 1973 . The coadjutor bishop of São Carlos , Constantino Amstalden , ordained him on December 8, 1974 as a priest . From 1975 to 1978 he was Spiritual of the Seminary of São Carlos, of which he was its rector from 1979 to 1986. He also taught at the seminary until 1991 and from 1987 was also parish priest in São Carlos.

Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop in São Salvador da Bahia and titular bishop of Lysinia on July 10, 1991 . The Archbishop of São Salvador da Bahia, Lucas Cardinal Moreira Neves OP , donated him episcopal ordination on September 20 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Constantino Amstalden, Bishop of São Carlos, and Rubens Augusto de Souza Espínola , Bishop of Paranavaí . As a motto he chose FIAT VOLUNTAS TUA . At the same time, José Tosi was Vicar General of the Archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia and lecturer at the Theological Institute of the Catholic University there.

On January 13, 1999, he was appointed Archbishop of Fortaleza . In May 2007 he was a delegate to the 5th General Conference of the Latin American Bishops' Council in Aparecida .
