José Fortunato Álvarez Valdéz
José Fortunato Álvarez Valdéz (born November 8, 1967 in Mexicali , Mexico ; † November 7, 2018 there ) was a Mexican clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Gómez Palacio .
Life
José Fortunato Álvarez Valdéz studied from 1993 at the Tijuana and Mexicali seminars . He received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Mexicali on May 31, 1998 . In the same year he became a professor at the local seminary, and from 1998 to 2003 he was episcopal secretary in Mexicali, which he was again from 2012. From 2008 to 2012, Álvarez was also general vicar of the diocese of Mexicali.
On December 30, 2015, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Gómez Palacio. The Apostolic Nuncio in Mexico, Archbishop Christophe Pierre , donated him episcopal ordination on March 16 of the following year . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Durango , José Antonio Fernández Hurtado , and the Bishop of Mexicali, José Isidro Guerrero Macías .
