José Gomes (Bishop)

José Gomes (born March 25, 1921 in Erechim , Santa Catarina , Brazil , † September 19, 2002 in Chapecó ) was a Brazilian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Chapecó .

Life

José Gomes received on 21 December 1947, the sacrament of Holy Orders .

On March 18, 1961, Pope John XXIII appointed him . to the first bishop of Bagé . The Bishop of Passo Fundo , João Cláudio Colling , donated him episcopal ordination on June 25 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Pelotas , Antônio Zattera , and the Prelate of Uruguaiana , Luiz Felipe de Nadal .

On July 16, 1968, Pope Paul VI appointed him . to the Bishop of Chapecó. On October 28, 1998, Pope John Paul II accepted José Gomes' resignation due to reasons of age.

José Gomes attended the first, second and fourth sessions of the Second Vatican Council .
