Jos van der Kooy

Jos van der Kooy (born December 1, 1951 in Rotterdam , Netherlands ) is a Dutch organist , choir director and university professor .

Life

Van der Kooy first studied organ at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam until 1981 . He received further training on the organ from Daniel Roth , Hans Haselböck and Ewald Kooiman, among others .

As early as 1980 van der Kooy became a lecturer at the Conservatory in Leeuwarden and organist at the Grote of Jacobijnerkerk there . After graduating a year later, he took over the position of organist at the Westerkerk in Amsterdam . In addition, van der Kooy became a lecturer for organ, improvisation and church music at the Koninklijk Conservatorium The Hague and Alkmaar .

In 1990 van der Kooy followed his former teacher in Amsterdam, Piet Kee, as the city organist of the Müller organ in St. Bavo's Church in Haarlem . From 2007 he is organist at the Raad van State in The Hague .

Currently, van der Kooy is the organist of the Müller organ in Haarlem, the Cavaillé-Collorgel of the Philharmonie Haarlem and the Duyschot father organ of the Westerkerk Amsterdam, where he is also the conductor of the Capella Westerkerk. As a lecturer, he teaches organ and improvisation at the Academie der Kunsten Leiden, the Koninklijk Concervatorium Den Haag and the International Summer Academy for Organists in Haarlem. He also gives master classes and private lessons.

Van der Kooy is a member of the jury of the International Improvisation Competition in Haarlem and was a member of the jury of the International Competition for Organ Improvisation at the European Church Music Festival in Schwäbisch Gmünd in 1997 and 2013 .
