Josef Elfinger

Josef Elfinger (born March 23, 1911 in Ingolstadt ; † 1988 ) was a German architect.

Life

He was the son of a watchmaking family from Ingolstadt . Elfinger made 1931 its Abitur . He then studied architecture at the Technical University in Munich , among others with Franz Xaver Proebst . Elfinger's teacher was the Munich architect Franz Xaver Proebst, with whom he later built the Donaukurier publishing house and the parish hall of St. Matthew in Ingolstadt . After graduating , he founded his architecture office in Ingolstadt in 1936 . Elfinger was the first chairman of the Ingolstadt Art Association from 1962 to 1967 . Josef Elfinger is co-founder of Jura House - association . Together with Heinrich Ullmann , the two are considered his spiritual fathers. Between 1957 and 1963 he worked with the painter and glass artist Max Wendel from Munich. Wendel was with his church windows at the churches of St. Pius , Ingolstadt; St. Marien , Gunzenhausen ; St. Hedwig , Berolzheim market ; St. Josef, Ingolstadt; Involved in the renovation of the Cathedral of the Beautiful Our Lady , Ingolstadt and the St. Anton Kindergarten, Ingolstadt.

Elfinger found his first job after the Second World War in the rebuilding of the destroyed Ingolstadt. His wife Therese Elfinger (1917–2003) was an artist and created works that can be found in Elfinger's works.

Many of his works are under monument protection , u. a. the Church of St. Pius in Ingolstadt and the Church of St. Peter in Oberhaunstadt. The St. Matthäus parish hall is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Ingolstadt . The parish church of St. Marien is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Gunzenhausen . The college building of the Catholic University is entered in the list of architectural monuments in Eichstätt .
