Josef "Seppi" Hurschler (born June 23, 1983 in Stans ) is a former Swiss Nordic combined athlete .

Career

Hurschler, whose father Walter Hurschler himself was successful as a combiner and competed in the 1984 Winter Olympics , made his international debut in the Grand Prix in 2000. From 2001 he competed in the B-World Cup of Nordic Combined. At the Junior World Championships 2002 in Schonach , Hurschler reached 8th place in Gundersen and 10th place with the team in the mass start. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , he was part of the Swiss squad and reached 31st place in the sprint. After the games he started in the Nordic Combined World Cup for the first time on March 1, 2002 , but was unable to achieve any World Cup points in the first competitions. In the Junior World Championship 2003 in Sweden Sollefteå he missed with the team and in the sprint, each with fourth place a medal narrowly. He finished eighth in the Gundersen competition. Shortly afterwards he started at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2003 in Val di Fiemme , where he reached 35th place in the sprint. After the world championship he started firmly in the B World Cup and was only used irregularly in the World Cup, where he remained unsuccessful. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he started in the individual competitions and reached the 24th place in the sprint and 22nd place in the Gundersen. In the first World Cup after the Games in Lahti , he was able to win World Cup points for the first time. In December 2007 he started again in the B World Cup before Hurschler was accepted into the World Cup squad. At the 2007 World Championships in Sapporo , Japan , he was fifth with the team, 17th in the Gundersen competition and 28th in the sprint. In the 2007/08 season he was able to place 28th overall in the Sprint World Cup. He was also able to improve his performance in the overall World Cup. At the 2009 World Championships in Liberec , Czech Republic , he only reached places 20 and 22 in the Gundersen competitions on the large and normal hill and 29th in the mass start. He ended the 2009/10 season as his most successful to date in 27th place in the overall World Cup ranking. In January 2010 he achieved his best career result with fourth place in Seefeld in Tirol. At the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver , Hurschler did not get past a 29th place in the individual on the normal hill and a 31st place in the individual on the large hill. In the team competition he reached 9th place together with Tim Hug , Tommy Schmid and Ronny Heer . At the last World Cup of the season in Lahti, Hurschler once again reached a place in the top ten and came in seventh. In the overall World Cup ranking, he reached 21st place.

At the beginning of the following season 2010/11 Hurschler convinced with a fifth place in Lillehammer . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2011 , he finished 26th and 32nd in the individual competitions. He finished eighth with the team. As a result, Hurschler missed top placements in the World Cup. In January 2012 he started again in the Continental Cup in Klingenthal for the first time. In addition to a victory, he achieved another fourth place. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme , Hurschler crossed the finish line from the large hill in 48th place. In the team sprint, he finished twelfth with Tim Hug . After the World Championships, he ended his active career.

Seppi Hurschler is the brother of the Nordic combined athlete Andreas Hurschler .
