Josefa Schellmoser (born December 30, 2002 ) is a German skeleton pilot. She took part in the skeleton for Germany at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2020 and won the silver medal.

Career

Josefa Schellmoser, who started for RC Berchtesgaden , took part in German championships for the first time on December 23, 2017 and, at the age of 14, took a strong ninth place at the German Skeleton Championship 2018 in Winterberg . As a result, she was allowed to make her debut in the European Skeleton Cup on January 19, 2019 in Innsbruck at the age of 15 and was able to take twelfth place on the bobsleigh Igls artificial ice rink .

A year later at her second German championship, she finished ninth again in Altenberg and was nominated by the BSD for the 2017/18 European Cup . At the start of the season in Innsbruck on November 16, 2018, Josefa Schellmoser took sixth place in the top ten for the first time on the Bob-Rodel Igls artificial ice rink . One day later, he finished fifth in the second race in Igls . She was also at the start in all other competitions of the European Cup and was always able to occupy a place in the top ten. At the end of the season, she finished fourth in the overall ranking behind her teammates Janine Becker , Hannah Neise and Luisa Hornung .

In the 2019/20 season Josefa Schellmoser was active in the OMEGA Youth Series so that she could qualify for the Winter Youth Olympic Games . It started in Lillehammer on November 26 and 27, 2019 and took first place in both competitions. She was also able to win the OMEGA Youth Series competition in Königssee on November 7, 2019. In the second competition a day later she missed her fourth victory and took third place on the Königssee ice rink . With these placements, she was able to successfully qualify for the 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne .

Before taking part in the Youth Olympic Games , Josefa Schellmoser took part in the first three races of the 2019/20 European Cup. After finishing fifth in Winterberg on December 8, 2019 , she finished on the podium for the first time on December 14, 2019 in Königssee . She came second behind Amelia Coltman from Great Britain and ahead of Hanna Staub from Germany. A day later she took fourth place in the second competition on the Königssee artificial ice rink . The Youth Olympic Winter Games in 2020 , which is actually in the Swiss town of Lausanne was held, she won in St. Moritz on the Olympia Bob Run St. Moritz-Celerina behind the Russian Anastasia Zyganowa and ahead of her teammate Elisabeth Schrödl second place.
