Life

In 1715 Biner entered the Jesuit order. He was ordained a priest 14 years later, in 1729.

From 1730 to October 1737 he taught philosophy at the High School in Rottenburg am Neckar (1730), the University of Dillingen (1731) and the University of Ingolstadt (1734), from 1737 to 1743 dogmatics at the Jesuit College of Lucerne , the University of Innsbruck and finally from 1744 to 1759 canon law at the universities in Innsbruck and Dillingen (1752) and in Amberg (1758).

Act

Joseph Biner played a key role in the conflict against heresy , primarily in Switzerland. All of his published, subsequent works have a polemical tinge due to his experiences with the "heretics". His writing, Catholische Anmerkung uber the newest uncatholic controversial writer, published in 1739 , peculiarly the so-called Urim and Thummim zu Zürich, refers to "heretics" in Zürich. In 1744 he published Indifferentismus , a treatise on religious indifference and liberalism. In 1750 he represented the position of the Catholic Church with his writing Holiness of the Church . The 13-part / 6-volume work Tractatus theologico-juridicus de summa trinitate, fide catholica et hierarchia ecclesiastica is considered an important work against heresy .

Biner's main work is Apparatus eruditionis ad iurisprudentiam praesertim ecclesiasticum . The eight-volume work (quarto volumes) on ecclesiastical and world history, with special consideration of ecclesiastical law, written between 1745 and 1762, is regarded as one of the most comprehensive canonical writings since the Middle Ages.

His last writing, Short Concept of Today's Faith Disputes, is an examination and refutation of the various Protestant faiths.
