Joseph Sanghyon "Joe" Cheong (born June 3, 1986 in Seoul , South Korea ) is a professional American poker player .

Personal

Cheong came to the United States with his family from South Korea at the age of six and moved to La Mirada , California . At the University of California in San Diego he made two Bachelor's degrees , the Bachelor of Science in Psychology and the joint Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and Economics . Cheong lives in Las Vegas .

Poker career

Career

Cheong has been playing online since the beginning of 2007 under the nicknames subiime ( PokerStars , Full Tilt Poker and Bodog) , xenish ( UltimateBet ) and solohomer (Cake Poker) . Its online tournament earnings to PokerStars be in excess of 2.5 million US dollars , also he won 900,000 dollars at Full Tilt Poker . Since 2009, Cheong has also been taking part in renowned live tournaments .

In June 2010 , Cheong was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and reached the money ranks in two tournaments of the No Limit Hold'em variant . He then played the $ 10,000 WSOP main event . After losing a much-discussed hand to the Italian Filippo Candio as chip leader on the seventh day of the tournament , Cheong went to the final table with the third-largest chip stack , which was played on November 6, 2010.
