When Götz joined the Bavarian army as an engineer officer in 1742 , Deutschmann was able to take over the workshop. For over four decades he was one of the leading sculptors in Lower Bavaria. He worked consistently for church clients. He also made a crook for the abbot of Niederaltaich monastery . Deutschmann was the uncle of the sculptor Franz Anton Zauner , whom he trained from 1756 to 1766.
