Joseph Deutschmann
Joseph Deutschmann , also Teutschmann (born December 3, 1717 in Imst ; † May 28, 1787 in St. Nikola , today Passau ; born Franz Joseph Deutschmann ) was an Austrian sculptor .
Deutschmann received his training from Andreas Kölle and Balthasar Jais in Imst. Around 1738 he came to St. Nikola near Passau, where he worked in the workshop of the local sculptor Joseph Matthias Götz . When Götz joined the Bavarian army as an engineer officer in 1742 , Deutschmann was able to take over the workshop. For over four decades he was one of the leading sculptors in Lower Bavaria. He worked consistently for church clients. He also made a crook for the abbot of Niederaltaich monastery . Deutschmann was the uncle of the sculptor Franz Anton Zauner , whom he trained from 1756 to 1766.
