Joseph Khawam
Joseph Khawam BA (born April 14, 1968 in Aleppo , Syria ) is a Syrian religious and Melkite Greek Catholic exarch of Venezuela .
Life
Joseph Khawam joined the religious order of the Basilians of Aleppo in 1987 and studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Pontifical Athenaeum Sant'Anselmo in Rome . He laid on August 5, 1995, the perpetual profession from and received on 16 December of the same year, the sacrament of Holy Orders .
After his ordination, Joseph Khawam Regens of the Small Seminary of the Basilians of Aleppo, pastor in Kib-Elias and rector of the Church of Notre-Dame-de-Zahlé . He was also secretary of the Priestly Council of the Zahlé and Furzol Archeparchies and a member of the Vocation Pastoral Committee . In 2007 Khawam became superior of the convent of his religious community in Sarba and in 2011 of the convent in Bmakine . In addition, Joseph Khawam was general assistant to the Basilians of Aleppo from 2011 to 2015.
On 20 December 2019 it appointed Pope Francis to the titular bishop of Apamea in Syria dei Greco-Melkiti and Melkite Greek Catholic Exarch of Venezuela and the Apostolic Administrator of the Eparchy of Our Lady of Paraíso de México . The Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch of Antioch , Joseph Absi SMSP , gave him on 7 March 2020, the Basilica of St. Paul in Harissa , the episcopal ordination ; Co - consecrators were the Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of Beirut and Jbeil , Georges Bacaouni , and the retired Melkite Greek Catholic Exarch of Venezuela, Georges Kahhalé Zouhaïraty BA . The inauguration took place on March 29, 2020.
