Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh

Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh (born November 22, 1949 in Ba Lang , Thih Giaia, Thanh Hóa , Vietnam ) is a Vietnamese clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Huế .

Life

Joseph Nguyễn Chí Linh grew up as the son of Christian parents in modest circumstances. He attended the Minor Seminary in Nha Trang (1962-67), the "Divine Providence" College in Huế (1967/68), the "Good Shepherd" College in Nha Trang (1968/70) and the Pontifical College in Đà Lạt ( 1970/1977).

Due to the political events in his homeland, he had to return to his family and work hard for 14 years, but at the same time he was an intern in the parish of Song My (Phan Tang, Ninh Thuan). On December 20, 1992, he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Nha Trang . After that he was vicar in Phuoc Thien for three years . From 1995 to 2003 he studied at the Institut catholique de Paris , where he received his doctorate in philosophy .

In November 2003 he returned to his home diocese. Until the time of his appointment as bishop, he was a professor at the major seminary in Nha Trang.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Thanh Hóa on May 21, 2004 . The bishop of Nha Trang, François Xavier Nguyên Van Thuân , gave him episcopal ordination on August 4th of the same year. Co- consecrators were the bishop of Lạng Sơn and Cao Bằng , Joseph Ngô Quang Kiệt , and the diocese of Vinh , Paul-Marie Cao Ðình Thuyên .

On October 29, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Huế .
