Joshua "Josh" Allen (* 13. July 1997 in Cumberland County , Virginia ) is an American American football poker players on the position of the defensive ends . He played college football for the University of Kentucky . In the 2019 NFL Draft , he was selected seventh by the Jacksonville Jaguars . He is not to be confused with the quarterback of the same name , who has played for the Buffalo Bills since 2018 .

Early years

Allen initially played high school football for three years at Abbeville , Alabama High School before moving to Montclair , New Jersey in his senior year . In high school he played as a wide receiver in addition to his later position as a defensive end . In his senior year of high school, he recorded the most quarterback sacks of a high school player in New Jersey.

college

Allen was rated a two-star recruit by 247Sports, with 2000 players in total and 100 players in his position rated better than Allen. Initially, Allen planned to play college football for Monmouth University , but with some withdrawals from other players, he received a late offer from the University of Kentucky , which he ultimately chose. He played there from 2015 to 2018. After initially playing as a substitute and in the special teams in his first year , he played in all 13 games in his second year, nine of them from the start. He recorded seven sacks in 2016, which made him lead his team in these statistics. After establishing himself as a starter in 2017, he was able to call up convincing performances, especially in his final year. At 17 sacks, he set the school record for most sacks in a season, no player in the Southeastern Conference have as many sacks as Allen since the statistics began to be recorded in 2000. He won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Chuck Bednarik Award , which recognize the best defensive player of college football season.

NFL

Allen was selected seventh in the 2019 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars . In the third game of the season against the Tennessee Titans , Allen recorded his first two sacks in the NFL, and he also forced a fumble . Allen was nominated for the Pro Bowl as a replacement for Frank Clark , who moved into Super Bowl LIV with the Kansas City Chiefs . Allen is the first Jaguar rookie to be called to a Pro Bowl.

His sister Myisha Hines-Allen plays basketball for the Washington Mystics in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).
