Josias I (Waldeck-Bergheim)

Josias I von Waldeck-Bergheim (born August 20, 1696 in Arolsen , † February 2, 1763 in Bergheim ) was the 13th son of Count Christian Ludwig von Waldeck and the sixth of a total of seven sons from his second marriage in 1680 in Idstein with Johannette von Nassau-Idstein (1657–1733). He was the second son named Josias from that marriage; an older brother of the same name, born in 1689, had died in 1693.

The residence was Bergheim Castle , built in 1692 , in today's Bergheim district of the Edertal community in the Waldeck-Frankenberg district in northern Hesse .

Josias founded the Count's branch line Waldeck-Bergheim . After his death, his son Georg Friedrich (1732–1771) followed him as Count of Waldeck-Bergheim. When he died without heirs entitled to inheritance, his brother Josias II followed. His descendants continued the count's branch line until September 27, 1938, when Hermann, Count zu Waldeck and Pyrmont in Bergheim, died without male descendants.

Josias' I half-brother Friedrich Anton Ulrich inherited his father as Count von Waldeck and Pyrmont in 1706 and was on January 6, 1712 by Emperor Karl VI. raised to the hereditary prince status.

Josias married Dorothea Sophie zu Solms-Rödelheim and Assenheim (* January 27, 1698 - February 6, 1774), daughter of Count Ludwig Heinrich zu Solms-Rödelheim and Assenheim , in Assenheim (now part of Niddatal ) on January 17, 1725 . With this, his house also acquired inheritance claims to the rule of Limpurg-Gaildorf in Württemberg , which were realized in 1806.
