Juan Carlos Masnik , full name Juan Carlos Masnik Hornos , (born March 2, 1943 in El Tala , Soriano Department ) is a former Uruguayan football player and coach.
Player career
society
The 1.76 meter tall defensive player Masnik initially played up to the Tercera División for Peñarol de Mercedes in his youth . He began his professional career in 1964 at Club Atlético Cerro , for which he played in the Primera División until 1967 . In 1967 he was also briefly active with his team under the name New York Skyliners in the USA. 1968 to 1970 he was in the ranks of Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata , ran for the Argentine club in 88 games and scored five goals. He then moved to Nacional Montevideo in 1971 . He was a member of the Montevidean Association until 1974. In 1971 and 1972 he won the Uruguayan championship with the Bolsos . He was also successful there on an international level and won the Copa Libertadores in 1971 . With his goal to the 1-0 final result in the final second leg against Estudiantes de La Plata Masnik contributed to the fact that there was a third final playoff. In December 1971 he was also part of the winning team of the Bolsos in the two games against Panathinaikos Athens for the World Cup . In the two games against CD Cruz Azul in July 1972 and November 1972, in which Nacional the Copa Interamericana 1972 decided in his favor, Masnik was also in the starting line-up. In 1973 and 1974 he was team captain in Montevideo. In 1975 a career stop at New York Cosmos with six appearances in the North American Soccer League is recorded for him. National team
Masnik was a member of the senior national team of Uruguay , for which he completed 26 internationals from his debut on July 28, 1967 in Lima against the Peruvian selection to his last appearance on June 23, 1974 in Düsseldorf against the Swedish team, according to the RSSSF . He did not score an international goal. For two years he was the captain of the Celeste . In contrast to this, the AUF shows a total of 28 senior international matches and five friendlies of the senior national team against club teams with Masnik's participation, but only lists 32 matches in the individual overview by the association chairman Fernando Sureda . In 1971 he lost with Celeste Chile at the Copa Juan Pinto Durán . At the Copa Lipton and the Copa Newton of 1973, he also ran for Uruguay. Masnik took part with Uruguay in the 1974 World Cup in the Federal Republic of Germany . During the tournament he was used in the games against the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Sweden.

Coaching career
After his active career, Masnik also worked as a trainer. In 1982 he was in charge of Nacional Montevideo. In the 1990s he held the coaching position at several clubs in El Salvador . In 1990 he was responsible for CD Luis Ángel Firpo , in 1992 for CD Fas , in 1994 for Atlético Marte and in 1996 for Alianza FC .
Others
Masnik not only made an appearance in football, but also played basketball quite successfully. At club level he was active at Club Esparta de Mercedes and was also runner-up three times with Soriano's department selection .
