Juergen B. Donges
Juergen Bernardo Donges (born October 24, 1940 in Seville ) was Professor of Economic Policy at the University of Cologne until his retirement in February 2007 .
Career
After completing a business apprenticeship, he studied economics at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken , and graduated in 1966. In 1969 he completed his doctorate at the same university. 1969–89 he carried out research at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy , and in 1979 he was appointed honorary professor at the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. 1989–2007 he was a full professor for economic political sciences , in particular economic policy, at the University of Cologne , where he was one of the directors of the Institute for Economic Policy.
Donges is a representative of the regulatory approach to economic policy . His main research interests are foreign trade and European integration. He has a particular interest in issues relating to the Spanish economy and has published a number of articles in Spanish language magazines. He is a member of the Royal Academy of Economics and Finance of Spain and, since 2003, of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts .
1992–2002 he was a member of the Advisory Council for the Assessment of Macroeconomic Development (“Five Wise Men”), 2000–2002 as its chairman. Before that, from 1989 to 1991, he headed the expert commission set up by the federal government to dismantle regulations that are contrary to the market (Deregulation Commission). 1998–2011 he was deputy. Chairman of the scientific working group for regulatory issues of the Federal Network Agency. 1973–1996 he was a member of the Scientific Advisory Board at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation. From 1990 to 2011 he was a member of the Kronberger Kreis , the scientific advisory board of the Market Economy Foundation , and an ambassador for the New Social Market Economy Initiative . He was one of 136 German economics professors (including Roland Vaubel , Hans-Werner Sinn , Bernd Lucke , Manfred JM Neumann and Georg Milbradt ) who, shortly before the federal elections in September 2013, accused the European Central Bank (ECB) of illegal monetary state financing in a call .
