Julius von der Schulenburg

Julius Karl Ferdinand Alexander von der Schulenburg (born April 2, 1809 in Priemern , † December 16, 1893 in Dresden ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , court marshal , legal knight of the Order of St. John and senior of the family.

Life

origin

Julius came from the old Brandenburg nobility family von der Schulenburg . He was a son of District Administrator Leopold Wilhelm von der Schulenburg (1772–1838) and his wife Charlotte Juliane, born von Kirchbach (1785–1873).

Career

Schulenburg joined the Gardes du Corps regiment of the Prussian Army on March 5, 1826 and was promoted to Rittmeister and chief of the 3rd Company by March 1843 . As a major , he was promoted to a regular staff officer in mid-October 1854 . He was commissioned on October 22, 1856 initially to lead the Guard Cuirassier Regiment and on February 19, 1857 Schulenburg was appointed regiment commander. In this position he became lieutenant colonel in early April 1857 . On the occasion of his marriage to Victoria of Great Britain and Ireland , Schulenburg accompanied Crown Prince Friedrich to London in January 1858 . On March 25, 1858 he took his leave as a colonel with the right to wear his regimental uniform.

In mid-June 1859, Schulenburg was put on hold and appointed court marshal to Prince Albrecht of Prussia . In this position he took in 1866 on the staff of the Prince at the German war part and received in March 1869 the character as a major general . Schulenburg also accompanied Albrecht in 1870/71 during the war against France and was awarded the Iron Cross, 2nd class. After the death of Albrecht von Prussia, Emperor Wilhelm I gave him the character of Lieutenant General on October 19, 1872 in recognition and in gratitude for his services to the prince.

Schulenburg was a knight of the Red Eagle Order II class with oak leaves and swords and the Crown Order I class with swords.

On May 28, 1839, he married Countess Marie von Einsiedel in Potsdam , with whom Schulenburg had four children.
