Justin Jason Roberts (born December 29, 1979 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American ring announcer and actor . He became known mainly through his time at WWE , where he appeared regularly as a ring announcer in their wrestling shows. Roberts currently works for All Elite Wrestling .

Career

Beginnings

Roberts began as a ring announcer at the age of 16 for the local professional wrestling promotion Pro Wrestling International. He announced his first match in November 1996. While studying media arts at the University of Arizona between 1998 and 2002 , he worked for independent promotions such as the American Wrestling Alliance , All Pro Wrestling and Impact Zone Wrestling. During this time he also worked for the Toughman Contest.

World Wrestling Entertainment

In 2002 he joined the WWE to there with Smackdown occur. He later moved to WWE Raw . He also worked at WWE Velocity and WWE ECW until September 2007 before trading with SmackDown's Tony Chimel. Roberts peaked when he was the ring announcer for the main event at Wrestlemania XXIV between Edge and The Undertaker on March 30, 2008. He also worked as a ring announcer for WWE Superstars .

As of September 28, 2009, Roberts took over the post of Lilian Garcia as ring announcer on Raw, after this resigned . On June 7, 2010, he was attacked by The Nexus , who competed in the first season of WWE NXT . During that segment, Roberts was strangled by Daniel Bryan with his own tie. This resulted in Bryan being fired because the WWE felt the action was too violent for their TV-PG programming. However, Bryan returned to SummerSlam two months later . At WrestleMania XXVII Roberts worked as the only ring announcer for the whole show, except for the part of the Hall of Fame in 2011 , which as usual by Howard Finkel was acquired.

Roberts was unexpectedly fired from the WWE on October 13, 2014.
