action

season 1

Richard works as a software developer in Silicon Valley for the company Hooli. In his spare time he wrote a revolutionary compression algorithm that his boss Gavin Belson plans to buy from him for $ 10 million. However, Richard decides on an offer from investor Peter Gregory who, instead of millions of dollars, offers him to found his own start-up. After some initial difficulties, he and his roommates founded the company "Pied Piper". Since Pied Piper is registered with TechCrunch Disrupt , the team is under severe time pressure to develop the application. Meanwhile, Hooli is working on Nucleus, a copy of Pied Piper's compression algorithm. At TechCrunch Disrupt, Gavin Belson will finally present Nucleus, the development of which is already much further advanced than that of Pied Piper. But Richard comes up with a way to dramatically improve the Pied Piper algorithm and so they emerge victorious from the event.

season 2

After winning the TechCrunch Disrupt, Pied Piper's team tries to find funding, which is thwarted by various interference by Hooli. The billionaire Russ Hannemann then financed the Series A, but later sold these shares to Laurie Bream, the new head of Peter Gregory's investment company Raviga. With a majority on the board, Laurie removes Richard as CEO of Pied Piper, who then leaves the company to pursue his idea of creating a new Internet. His successor will be Dinesh, who built the video chat app PiperChat on the basis of the Pied Piper algorithm, and who achieved an increasingly growing user base. However, this is mainly a minor, which is why Dinesh is giving the company away to Hooli under pressure from Gavin Belson. Pied Piper then developed an app that compresses the data on the user's mobile phone, which in return makes half of the memory available to the network. Pied Piper sells this storage space to a pornography company, whose data is lost. Meanwhile, Hooli is taking legal action against Pied Piper because Richard is said to have developed his algorithm on a service computer. With the help of a shady lawyer, Richard wins the lawsuit because of invalid clauses in Hooli's employment contracts.
