kk Franz Joseph Military Academy
The kk Franz Joseph Military Academy was located in the 3rd district of Vienna in the houses Boerhaavegasse 13 and 15 and was also called the Landwehr Cadet School.
This military academy of the Austrian Landwehr was one of five military academies in Austria-Hungary . It consisted of two buildings separated by the former Weißenbergergasse (meanwhile closed), which were built in 1895 and 1898 according to plans by the architect Franz von Krauss and connected with an iron bridge, and the Landwehr riding school . After the First World War , the Boerhaavegasse 13 building was connected to the Rudolfstiftung hospital opposite and was used as a police hospital until the Second World War . Today, numerous outpatient clinics of the Rudolfstiftung Hospital are housed here in order to separate inpatients and outpatients. In 1919 the Federal Educational Institute for Girls was set up in Boerhaavegasse 15 , today a higher boarding school of the Federal Government of Vienna .
Former Landwehr cadet school with a chapel
The two projecting and recessed structures were built between 1895 and 1898 according to the plans of the architect Franz von Krauss. On the first floor at number 13 there is a chapel with frescoes and altars and a miraculous image of Mary and Child from the 19th century.
