The Kabelsteg is a cable bridge over the Danube Canal in Vienna , which provides power to the northeastern districts of the city.

Until the 1960s , the districts on the left bank of the Danube Canal were supplied from the Simmering power plant via cable bridges that were integrated into the Ostbahnbrücke . When this was no longer sufficient, a separate cable bridge was built in 1967 just below the Ostbahnbrücke, at the level of the power station. The cost was 3.5 million schillings (about 254,000 euros ).

The cable walkway is 140 meters long and not accessible to the public. The service pillar on the right bank is in the 11th district of Simmering on the site of the power plant, the left bank in the 2nd district of Leopoldstadt . There is also a supporting pillar on both banks of the river. The bridge body containing the power cables is 3 meters wide and 2.5 meters high and can be accessed from the inside by maintenance personnel.
