history
The Spittelauer Brücke pedestrian and cycle path (object number 0905 3), the U6 Danube Canal Bridge and the Spittelau bridge B 227 (object number 0905 1) largely use the same structure, but the MA 29 names them as three different bridges.
The bridge was built between 1992 and 1995 by a consortium consisting of Beton- und Monierbau GmbH , Hofman & Maculan , Ilbau AG , Negrelli and Strabag AG . From the newly built Spittelau station , for the construction of which the connecting arch between the belt line and the Danube canal line was interrupted, the U6 crosses the Danube canal on its way to Floridsdorf on a 126-meter-long prestressed concrete bridge, on whose cantilevered girders the two Spittelau bridges are also supported. The heavyweight tunnel portal of the U6 serves as a counterweight for the tensioning of the supporting cables.
