The Siemens-Nixdorf-Steg was built between 1990 and 1991 according to plans by Heinz Neumann and Sepp Frank . The steel construction work was carried out by Voest Alpine MCE .

The bridge has a total length of 98 meters and a width of 5 meters. A centrally arranged three-chord with a span of about 61 meters carries an approximately 2.5-meter-wide walkway on each side. A pipe with a diameter of 600 millimeters and widely projecting girders serves as the lower chord.

The Siemens-Nixdorf-Steg was built mainly because the distance between the two neighboring bridges Friedensbrücke and Rossauer Brücke was 900 meters for pedestrians. A roller ferry, which previously crossed the Danube Canal in this area, had been discontinued because no tenant had been found.

Werner von Siemens and Heinz Nixdorf gave its name to this footbridge , whereby the Siemens Nixdorf headquarters in the 2nd district , which was nearby at the time, most likely played a major role.

Surroundings

The Jewish cemetery Roßau in Seegasse , the former military catering establishment and the Augarten are located near the Siemens-Nixdorf- Steg .
