The Döblinger Steg crosses the Danube Canal in Vienna and connects the districts of Döbling and Brigittenau .

The Döblinger Steg connects the Oberdöbling part of the Döbling district with the Brigittenau district and enables a direct connection from Heiligenstädter Strasse to Klosterneuburger Strasse or Brigittenauer Lände . The footbridge leads through the Rampengasse in the Döblingen district of Heiligenstadt over the tracks of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn and over the Heiligenstädter Lände to the Danube Canal.

history

1910-1945

Between 1910 and 1911, the Döblinger Steg was built as a pedestrian link and as a support for two water pipes and a gas pipe in the form of a truss bridge over the Danube Canal according to plans by Friedrich Jäckel . The master builder work was carried out by H. Rella & Co. and Josef Richter . The draft of the iron construction comes from the civil engineer Josef Luger and was carried out by the company Aktien-Gesellschaft R. Ph. Waagner - L. and J. Biró & A. Kurz . Franz Klug was responsible for the stone carving.

1947– today

The part of the footbridge located on Brigittenauer Ufer was particularly affected by the demolition in April 1945 in the course of the Battle of Vienna . In 1947 the footbridge was rebuilt using the parts of the steel structure in the Danube Canal. Between 1974 and 1975 two reinforced concrete extension structures were erected to bridge the Heiligenstädter Lände and Brigittenauer Lände roads that accompany the Danube Canal . On the Döblinger side, it is possible to reach Döblinger Steg continuously from Rampengasse in the 19th district via the subway route .

The municipal department 29 (MA 29) responsible for bridge construction divides this building, which forms a functional unit, into six individual objects, for which separate bridge books are kept, namely for the "Döblinger Steg", the "Rampensteg", the " Extension of the Döblinger Steg right bank ”, the“ Chamber ”below, the“ Extension of the Döblinger Steg left bank ”and the“ Chamber under the B 227 left bank ”. And so the Döblinger Steg is officially much shorter than it appears to the user, a circumstance that was criticized by the Control Office of the City of Vienna in a control office report published on the Internet.

Between 1995 and 1997, the Döblinger Steg was completely overhauled.
