Nussdorf node
The Nussdorf node is a four-part bridge over the Danube Canal, built in 1981 and extending over a 500 m stretch of river, near the districts of Nussdorf and Heiligenstadt in the north of Vienna . It connects important traffic flows for motorized individual traffic and connects directly to the western end of the north bridge, which has been extended to suit the motorway . In addition to the roadway, there are also public footpaths on individual bridges, some of which can only be reached via staircases. The node is in districts 19 and 20 .
Traffic relations
The node links (clockwise) the following relations:
- B 14 from Vienna Heiligenstadt to Tulln on the right bank of the Danube
- A 22 north bridge over the Danube to the Danube bank motorway on the left bank of the river ( 21st district )
- B 14 on the Handelskai from the Nussdorf junction, along the right bank of the Danube, southwards to the Freudenauer Hafenbrücke (2nd / 11th district) and via this to the B 225 or B 10 ( Simmeringer Hauptstraße )
- B 227 , Brigittenauer Lände on the Danube Canal , heading north
- B 227, Nussdorfer Lände on the Danube Canal, heading south
Of the four bridges over the Danube Canal, the connection between the north bridge and Nussdorfer Lände was given the name Nussdorfer Brücke . The Nussdorfer Steg (19th / 20th district) is located between the four bridges for pedestrians . From a structural point of view, the bridges are particularly interesting because of their often extreme arch positions with spans of up to 70 meters. Without the Nussdorfer Bridge, the junction has a traffic area of around 54,000 square meters.
Surroundings
The junction frames the Shipbuilding Research Institute on the Danube Canal and is located in the west a short distance from the Wien-Heiligenstadt train station of the Franz-Josefs-Bahn (with S 40), the suburban line (S 45) and the Vienna U-Bahn ( U 4 ) . To the east, the Brigittenau freight station through which the S45 runs, connects to the Donauuferbahn , to the south the access to the north-west station, which is only used for freight traffic .
Mainly for reasons of space, the former federal road 14 leading to Klosterneuburg ( called Klosterneuburger Strasse under road construction law, a term that is not used by the general public in Vienna due to the risk of confusion with a Brigittenauer Hauptstrasse) north of the Nussdorf junction in an elevated position just a few meters past the Nussdorf Weir , which is a listed building whose overall impression suffers severely.
