Potassium O -ethyldithiocarbonate , formerly potassium ethylxanthate , is a chemical compound from the group of potassium salts and xanthates (dithiocarbonates).

Extraction and presentation

Potassium O -ethyldithiocarbonate was first produced in 1822 by William Christopher Zeise from potassium hydroxide , carbon disulfide and ethanol .

use

Potassium O -ethyldithiocarbonate is mainly used as an anion-active collector in the flotation of copper, nickel and silver ores.

It is also used for syntheses: thioketones are accessible by reacting potassium O -ethyldithiocarbonate and dichlorides. Potassium O -ethyldithiocarbonate has also been investigated for use as a preservative , precipitation reagent, and in Japan for the liquid-liquid extraction of technetium and rhenium .
