Moon Suk (birth name Kang Moon Suk ; born March 8, 1965 in Gyeongnam Province , South Korea ) is a Berlin-based South Korean soprano , television presenter, actress, poet and voice actress. She has been a German citizen since 2010.
Life
The Berliner by choice first studied church music at Ewha Womans University in Seoul and came to Germany in 1989 to study opera singing and singing for lied and oratorio (with a Richard Wagner scholarship ) at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe .
During her studies under Lucretia West and Marga Schiml , she took part in various international master singing courses. a. with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, Ingrid Bjoner, Anna Reynolds, Hermann Winkler and arranged recitals and concerts in Austria, Russia, Brazil, France, Switzerland, UK and South Korea. In 1993, after her debut as First Lady in Die Zauberflöte at the Heidenheim Opera Festival , she founded the artist group Pandora and directed it from 1996 to 2000 as a singer and director. In 2003 Moon Suk developed the German / Korean texts for Radio Bremen as well as the concept for improvisation for the world premiere of the opera An unknown time with the inventor of the steel cello, Robert Rutman .
As a voice actress, her best-known speaking role was that of Sun Kwon in the series Lost . The mother of two continues to perform as a soprano, but also pursues very different activities: she has published several books, including an interview / portrait book (with Meret Becker , Erdal Yıldız , Dr. Motte , Judy Winter and Detlev Buck , among others , photographed by Jim Rakete ) and several volumes of poetry. She also works as a dancer, choreographer, performance artist and actress. In 2003 and 2004 she starred in three Tatort episodes and modeled for the hat maker Fiona Bennett .
From 2005 to 2007 she was “cultural ambassador” in the ZDF morning magazine . In the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue 2008, Moon Suk was active as an ambassador in Germany. The aim of the European Commission's campaign was to inform people in all 27 EU countries about the benefits of diversity and to get them excited about intercultural exchange.
On the occasion of her 20-year stay in Germany, the South Korean published her 100-page photo and poetry book Moon Suk - Ich bin ein Koreanerin in 2009 . In 2011 Moon developed her concept of the one-act bonsai opera using Madama Butterfly as an example and appeared in Letters of Butterfly as Geisha Cho-Cho-San alias Butterfly. All other roles, such as that of the maid Suzuki, of the US naval officer Pinkerton, as well as that of the consul Sharpless, were arranged and interpreted by musicians from the Vogler Quartet . The premiere on June 21 of the same year in Homburg / Saarland was celebrated with a standing ovation.
In the same year the artist called Fun-For-Writing e. V. into life. The association sees itself as an inspiration for the fun of writing across all social classes. The association also initiated the nationwide writing competition Federleicht , under the current patronage of the federal chairman of Alliance 90 / The Greens , Cem Özdemir .
In 2012 Moon Suk and the composer Jan Giese finished their work on the CD Seasons . The album combines recitation with classical singing, lounge music with club sound. The twelve titles also include two songs that the director Uta Arning used in her Japanese film Snowchild (2011).
In 2013, two awards of the Federleicht writing competition took place: in January 2013 in the Neukölln Opera for the writing competition in 2012 and in November 2013 in the Otto-Braun-Saal of the Berlin State Library for the writing competition in 2013.
