history

In 1790 the administration of France was changed and the country was divided into departments, cantons and communes . On February 21, 1790, the first canton of Broglie was established. It consisted of 15 municipalities: Le Bosc-Morel (now part of (Le) Chamblac ), Broglie, Capelle-les-Grands , (Le) Chamblac, Ferrières-Saint-Hilaire , Grand-Camp , Les Jonquerets , Landepéreuse , Livet- en-Ouche (now part of Jonquerets-de-Livet), Saint-Aubin-du-Thenney , Saint-Germain-la-Campagne , Saint-Jean-du-Thenney , Saint-Mards-de-Fresne , Sainte-Marguerite- en-Ouche , Saint-Nicolas-du-Bosc-l'Abbé and Saint-Vincent-la-Rivière (now part of Broglie). A law of September 14, 1801 ordered a reduction in the number of cantons in the Eure department. The canton of Montreuil-l'Argillé was dissolved and almost all of the municipalities in it were integrated into the canton of Broglie, which gave up seven municipalities. In 1836 the canton had 11,905 inhabitants, the largest number in its history. A total of 14 parishes were amalgamated by 2015, most of them between 1830 and 1848 during the reign of Louis-Philippe I.
