The canton of Markoldendorf existed for about six years from 1807 to 1813 in the Einbeck district and was part of the Leine department . This was formed by the establishment of the Kingdom of Westphalia by a royal decree of 24 December 1807 at Cassel. Markoldendorf was affected by restructuring to finally determine the state of the communities in the department of the Leine on June 16, 1809. After this decree, the hamlet of Hoppensen was split off and the five new communities Lauenberg, Ellensen, Eilensen, Hunnesrück and Erichsburg were added to the canton in the form below.
