history

Karlštejn was founded in the first half of the 18th century as a settlement of metalworkers from Svratka and Česká Cikánka. In 1708 Franziska Rosalie Beatrix Berka von Dubá , the wife of the owner of the Richenburg estate , Wilhelm Leopold Count Kinský, had a St. Create a chapel consecrated to Aegidius. Between 1767 and 1776, on behalf of Count Philipp Kinský, a hunting lodge was built next to the chapel, which was surrounded by a deer garden. In 1784 the castle became the seat of the Hüttenamt of the Richenburg rule. After Karl Alexander von Thurn und Taxis bought the Richenburg estate for one million guilders from Philipp Joseph Count Kinský in 1823, the castle also served as the seat of the forest administration for the surrounding forests.

In 1835 the Dominikaldorf Karlstein in the south of the Chrudim district consisted of 7 houses in which 51 people lived. In the village there was a hunting lodge with a chapel, which served as the residence of a manorial forest official. The Catholic parish was Swratka , the Helvetians were parish in Swratauch . Until the middle of the 19th century, Karlstein was always subject to the allodial rule of Richenburg.

After the abolition of patrimonial Karlstein formed a district of the municipality Svratouch in the judicial district of Hlinsko from 1850 , from 1868 the village belonged to the political district of Chrudim . The place name Karlštejn has been in use since 1924 . In 1949 Karlštejn was assigned to Okres Hlinsko and in 1961 again to Okres Chrudim . In 1991 the place had 3 residents. In 2001 the village consisted of 8 houses in which 7 people lived.
