Karl-Walter Böhm (born June 6, 1938 in Nuremberg ; † June 1, 2000 in Fränkisch-Crumbach ) was a German opera singer ( hero tenor ).

Life

Böhm studied singing with Paul and Lilo Mangold in Berlin. From 1967 to 1969 he appeared on the Rehberge open-air stage , initially primarily in lyrical roles. His debut at an opera house then took place as Radames in Giuseppe Verdi's Aida in 1970 in Aachen . In the following years he was engaged at the Osnabrück Theater and sang at the Bremerhaven City Theater from 1971 to 1974 (including operetta roles). From 1973 to 1976 he also worked at the Theater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich. From 1975 to 1978 he was a member of the ensemble of the Nationaltheater Mannheim , after which he gave free guest performances.

In 1974 he sang Max in Carl Maria von Weber's Freischütz at the Portland Opera . From 1975 to 1977 he made four guest appearances at the Vienna State Opera , at the Salzburg Easter Festival of 1976 Lohengrin, at the Salzburg Festival 1977 and 1978 the Herodes in Salome by Richard Strauss . In 1978 he was Parsifal at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna , at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires and at the Teatro Liceu in Barcelona in 1978 as Tannhäuser. At the Teatro Margherita in Genoa in 1979 he was Florestan in the Italian premiere of the original version of Leonore in 1805 ( Beethoven ). In 1979 he made his debut at the Grand Opéra Paris as drum major in Wozzeck von Alban Berg . In 1980 he was a guest at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos Lisbon , 1981 at the Stadttheater Bern , in 1982 as Herodes again at the Teatro Liceu Barcelona.

Karl-Walter Böhm also sang successfully at the opera houses in Cologne , Essen , Graz , Nuremberg and Saarbrücken , Budapest , Nancy and Milwaukee .

His most important roles included Florestan in Fidelio , Don José in Carmen , Pedro in Tiefland by Eugen d'Albert , Canio in Pagliacci , Lenski in Eugene Onegin , Manrico in Trovatore , Radames, and Othello by Giuseppe Verdi as well as the Wagner roles Rienzi, Tannhäuser, Lohengrin, Siegmund, Siegfried and Parsifal.

Böhm lived in Aachen, Osnabrück, Bremerhaven, Munich, Essen and Schriesheim an der Bergstrasse .
