Karl Anton Dominik von Otto

Karl Anton Dominik von Otto ( December 1723 in Franconia ; † May 12, 1797 in Cosel ) was a Prussian major general and commandant of the Cosel Fortress .

Life

Military career

Otto went into Dutch service in 1740 , became second lieutenant in 1746 and first lieutenant in 1752 . At the beginning of the Seven Years' War he switched to Prussian services on October 8, 1756 and was employed as a staff captain in the free battalion "Le Noble" . There Otto became captain and company commander on November 25, 1756 . On February 2, 1759 he was then major . At the end of the war the free battalion was withdrawn and on April 1, 1763, was transferred to the "Le Noble" garrison regiment . On January 1, 1772 he rose to lieutenant colonel and led at the beginning of the Bavarian War of Succession the III. Battalion of the regiment from Glatz to Schweidnitz for the war garrison of the fortress.

After the war, Otto became commander of the garrison battalion on May 1, 1786, and in this capacity, a colonel on December 14, 1786 . On May 1, 1788, he was transferred to the depot battalion of the infantry regiment "von Wunsch" . As an experienced officer , Otto was appointed commander of the Cosel Fortress on July 18, 1790 with a salary of 1200 thalers. On July 28, 1790, he applied for money for building barracks and for earthworks. For this he was given 2,348 thalers. On July 20, 1793, he was promoted to major general. He then died on May 12, 1797 in Cosel.
