Karl Dietrich Hüllmann

Karl Dietrich Hüllmann (born September 10, 1765 in Erdeborn , today in the district of Mansfeld-Südharz , † March 4, 1846 in Bonn ) was a German historian and university professor .

Life

Hüllmann attended the Martin-Luther-Gymnasium Eisleben and studied at the Friedrichs-Universität Halle . From 1786 he ran a business school in Bremen . In 1792 he became a teacher at the Berge Kloster school , then at the Realschule in Berlin.

In 1795 he qualified as a professor for history at the Brandenburg University of Frankfurt . In 1797 he was appointed professor . In 1807 he was elected a corresponding member of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences . In 1808 he moved to the Albertus University in Königsberg . He headed the Royal German Society (Königsberg) , but did not feel comfortable in the capital and residence of the Kingdom of Prussia .

He only turned down the call of the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg because the Prussian Ministry of Spiritual, Educational and Medical Affairs had promised him the chair of the newly established Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn in 1818 . In 1818/19 he was the first rector of Bonn University.

Of his writings, the main work The City of the Middle Ages should be emphasized.
