Karl Christian Eger (born August 18, 1864 in Friedberg (Hesse) , † July 3, 1945 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German Protestant theologian.

Life

Karl Eger was born in Friedberg in 1864 as the son of the later linguist Gustav Eger , where his father was a private tutor. His brother was the legal scholar Otto Eger , his grandfather the Darmstadt superintendent Karl Köhler . He attended the Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium in Darmstadt. After graduating from high school, he studied in Giessen , Leipzig and Berlin and in 1889 became a pastor's assistant in Langenhain (Taunus) . From 1891 to 1892 he was assistant chaplain, then until 1900 city pastor at the city church in Darmstadt . After his doctorate to Lic. Theol. in 1900 at the University of Giessen he became the third professor at the Predigerseminar in Friedberg in 1901 and its director in 1907. In 1913 he followed a call to the University of Halle and worked at the theological faculty there as a full professor of practical theology and university preacher. He held this position until 1929 and then represented the chair for some time.

Karl Eger belonged to Gustav Stresemann's German People's Party (DVP) for a long time . After the party approved the Young Plan in 1930 , he resigned from the party.

Karl Eger was a member of the Saxon Provincial Synod (1929–1933 as its President ) and the Prussian General Synod (since 1919). Here he belonged to the People's Church Evangelical Association , whose chairmanship he later took over.

Karl Eger died in Halle in July 1945 at the age of 80. His first marriage was from 1892 to Gertrud von Lübenow (1866–1922) and from 1924 to Maria Grüneisen (1878–1935).
