Karl Friedrich Brescius

Karl Friedrich Brescius , mostly just Friedrich Brescius (also Carl ; born January 31, 1766 in Bautzen , † August 24, 1842 in Berlin ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian and clergyman .

Life

Brescius already had a conducive environment for high-quality training at home. He attended high school in his hometown. He completed this in 1784 and then devoted himself to studying at the University of Leipzig . He stayed there until about 1788. He left the university as Dr. phil. After he initially returned to Bautzen, he received a call from Count Pückler to Muskau in 1788 . After he had completed the necessary tests, he was born on October 17, 1788 ordained . He was now rector and deacon in Muskau. About two years later, in 1790, he moved to the court as court preacher and as the successor to Andreas Tamm as tutor to Hermann von Pückler-Muskau and also became a member of the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences . After the young count moved to a teaching institution in 1793, Brescius received the post of assessor at the consistory and also became a school inspector . After 1795 he also completed an apprenticeship as a watchmaker . His watches quickly became very popular and traded at high prices. From 1797 to 1810 he was also involved in the Society for Beekeeping in Muskau, where he was secretary.

Brescius was introduced as pastor of Triebel on August 31, 1806 . As in Muskau, he reformed the hymnbook there too . On January 16, 1811 he was named as the successor to the office of Pastor of Lübben and General Superintendent of Niederlausitz. On May 19, 1811 he gave his inaugural sermon in Lübben. When Niederlausitz fell to the Kingdom of Prussia as part of the results of the Congress of Vienna in 1816 , he was transferred to Frankfurt an der Oder while retaining his office. In 1819 he led the provincial synod to negotiate a new church order. In 1827 he was appointed to the consistory in Berlin and finally in 1836 the general superintendent of the entire administrative district of Frankfurt an der Oder was transferred.
