Karl Friedrich Elsäßer

Karl Friedrich Elsäßer (born May 28, 1746 in Stuttgart , † July 7, 1815 in Tübingen ) was a German lawyer and professor of law in Erlangen and at the Hohen Karlsschule in Stuttgart.

Karl Friedrich E. Elsäßer was born on May 28, 1746 as the only child of the expedition councilor Jakob Friedrich Elsässer and Friederike Magdalena Golther in Stuttgart. In 1772 he married Christiane Stockmaier. In 1773 their daughter Wilhelmine was born in Stuttgart. (Wilhelmine later became the mother of Wilhelm Hauff and Hermann Hauff )

He attended the grammar school in his hometown, studied from 1764 to 1769 in Tübingen and Göttingen and in 1768 was licentiate in Tübingen and attorney at court in Tübingen . In 1770 he stayed in Wetzlar for a few months , then moved back to Stuttgart and practiced as a lawyer there. In 1775 he was appointed to the University of Erlangen and accepted a chair there. In 1776 he became court advisor and in 1778 chancellor of the university. Between 1776 and 1778, together with Christian Gottlieb Gmelin , Elsäßer published the critical journal Latest legal literature , and non-profit legal observations and legal cases . In 1784 Elsäßer went to the Carlsschule Stuttgart as a member of the government and professor of law . In 1807 he was appointed chief appeal officer in Tübingen, where he died on July 7, 1815.
