Karl Gadow

Karl Gadow (born November 26, 1913 in Nowawes ; † October 6, 1992 ) was a German politician ( SPD / SED ) and diplomat . He was the GDR's ambassador in Nepal .

Life

Gadow was born the son of a printer. In 1932 he joined the SPD. After graduating from high school in 1933, he learned the trade of bookseller. In 1939 he was drafted into the army for military service.

After the war ended in 1945, he rejoined the SPD and became a member of the SED in 1946. 1945/46 he was an employee of the Potsdam city ​​administration . From February 1946, as an employee of the Brandenburg SPD district committee, together with the communist Kurt Laube, he headed the joint organizational office of the SPD and KPD for the province of Brandenburg. In 1946/47 he worked in the information office of the Brandenburg provincial government. From April 1946 to April 1949 Gadow was a member of the secretariat of the SED state committee in Brandenburg. Together with Bruno Brockhoff, he was responsible for the advertising and training secretariat as well as the youth department. From September 1947 he was only responsible for the advertising, press, and radio department and was also head of this department. From May 1949, after the establishment of the small secretariat, Gadow was no longer a member of the secretariat of the SED state executive, but was still head of the department for mass agitation. From February to September 1950 he was a substitute member of the Brandenburg state parliament .

After studying at the party college "Karl Marx" (1950–1953), he headed the film department in the main film administration of the GDR Ministry of Culture and became director of the DEFA studio for dubbing .

In 1961 Gadow entered the diplomatic service of the GDR, from 1961 to 1965 he worked as the GDR's vice consul and cultural attaché in Cairo . Between 1965 and 1970 he held various functions in the MfAA and was secretary of the UNESCO commission of the GDR. From 1964 to 1970 he was a member of the Presidium and in 1966 of the Extended Bureau of the League for the UNESCO Commission. From 1968 he acted as the education and training commissioner of the league. From 1970 to 1974 he was First Secretary at the GDR Embassy in New Delhi . From May 1975 to August 1978 he acted as the GDR's ambassador in Kathmandu .
